Amazon will connect Australian businesses to millions of customers they couldn’t reach before, says Tech Entrepreneur Danny Ing
Auckland, New Zealand — 30/03/2017– Amazon will give businesses in the ANZ markets unprecedented access to millions more customers than they reach now, says cloud technology entrepreneur Danny Ing.
News stories focus on how Amazon may negatively impact established retail chains when Amazon Australia launches later this year. This view misses the fact that Amazon will benefit many businesses that make, sell, and retail their own products.
“Amazon effectively has spawned a new era of the ‘globalized cottage industry’,” says Ing, Founder and Chief Architect of Cin7, a cloud-based inventory management solution. “I’ve worked with companies in the US that are growing from $1 million to $30 million revenue in just a few years by selling on Amazon. I believe Amazon will give Australian businesses that same opportunity.”
Ing has built a career on staying ahead of the prevailing wind. He was born into a family of risk-takers that made the arduous journey from Vietnam to New Zealand in 1980 as part of the massive “Boat People” immigration that only one-in-ten refugees survived.
Ing later taught himself the computer skills necessary to follow his technology avocation. He founded a successful online solutions provider for business clients, then launched Cin7 in anticipation of the growing dominance of eCommerce and his existing clients had to manage inventory and costs across multiple sales channels.
“The Amazon phenomenon is just the most tangible effect of those ideas, it’s the juggernaut that has been pushing eCommerce,” Ing says. “People trust Amazon for pricing and fast fulfillment, and that’s a 300 million-person global market that Australian businesses will be able to reach.”
While many ANZ-based retailers see Amazon’s arrival as a threat, Cin7 believes the disruption will be an opportunity for companies looking to expand their customer base. Early research from Nielsen finds that 56% of Australian consumers expect to buy on Amazon Australian, with high interest in apparel, footwear, and electronics, in addition to books and entertainment. Cin7 can show companies how, by adding an Amazon channel to their business, they can profit by reaching Australia and global customers they could never reach before.
